Gave up on trying to keep the referral links clean

My referral spam blacklist (a copy originally derived from Lance Lavandowska’s, but one that I was continually extending and maintaining manually based on new spam traffic) was unable to keep up with the referral spammers. I’ve taken out the referral link section from the front page. More intelligent automation is needed to make that possible again.
